A multi-generation Far North quarrying and contracting business

Bellingham Quarries is a family-owned business operating nine quarry sites across the Upper Far North. From our main operation at Larmer Road near Kaitaia, we supply a wide range of bluestone and limestone aggregates and agricultural lime, backed by our own transport, heavy machinery and experienced people.
Today, around 20 people work across the business, with a wide range of plant and machinery supporting our quarrying, mobile crushing and screening, earthworks, roading and other contracting work.
While the business has changed enormously over the generations, Bellingham Quarries remains firmly based in the Far North and continues to grow the range and scale of work we can take on.

Aggregate supply, mobile crushing, transport and contracting

Quarrying remains at the heart of the business, but Bellingham Quarries now has capabilities that extend well beyond producing and supplying aggregate.
Our mobile crushing and screening operation can be transported to quarries, farms and other suitable sites, while our contracting work covers bulk earthworks, site preparation, unsealed roads and tracks, drainage, seawalls, rock walls and river work.
Having quarry resources, transport and heavy earthmoving machinery within the same business also means we can coordinate several parts of a project — from supplying and carting aggregate and rock through to carrying out the work on site.

For us, supporting the Far North isn't a new initiative. It's something the Bellingham family has been doing for generations.

A family history stretching back more than a century

The Bellingham family's Northland story began in the 1920s, when Ted Bellingham and his sons Eric and Allan were digging kauri gum around Mangawhai. When the Depression brought that industry to an end, the machinery they had invested in was put to work on Northland roading contracts. Those early road projects introduced the family to drilling, blasting and working with rock, eventually leading them into quarrying.
In 1937, the family established an agricultural lime operation near Kaitaia, beginning a connection with the Far North quarrying industry that continues today. Agricultural lime became an important part of the business, with further quarry operations established as demand grew.
Over successive generations, Bellingham Quarries expanded from those early limeworks into the nine-site quarrying, transport and contracting operation it is today.

Industry connections and recognition

Bellingham Quarries is a member of the Institute of Quarrying (IOQ) and the Aggregate & Quarry Association (AQA).
The business is also a winner of the Northland Business Excellence Medium Business Award, recognising a long-established Far North company that has continued to develop and grow.
Bellingham Quarries has been part of the Far North for generations, and we're continuing to invest in the machinery, people and capabilities that will take the business forward.
